A conveyor belt system runs around two rollers one or both of which are powered. The conveyor has one or more pieces of carpet (4) secured to the surface. The carpets act as flexible trays on which products or components are placed during e.g. an assembly line operation. The carpets are flexible, enabling them to run around the rollers (1,1") at each end. The carpets are secured to the conveyor belt (2) by a clamp (3).
