PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing highly pure tetrachloroisophthalonitrile, by which a highly stableα-type crystal form among the crystal forms of the tetrachloroisophthalonitrile used as an agricultural or industrial disinfectant or the like can selectively be produced, whereby the highly pure tetrachloroisophthalonitrile useful as the agricultural or industrial disinfectant or the like can efficiently be obtained in a high yield. SOLUTION: This method for producing the highly pure tetrachloroisophthalonitrile having a highα-type crystal content, characterized by dissolving the tetrachloroisophthalonitrile ofα-type crystal state andβ-type crystal state in a heated organic solvent, gradually cooling the solution to deposit the crystals containing theα-type crystals in an amount of >=95% and then filtering off the crystals.
