PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silver halide photosensitive material for plate making having ultrahigh contrast, high sensitivity and gradation excellent in linearity and less liable to generate black spots and a processing method for the photosensitive material. SOLUTION: In the silver halide photosensitive material containing a photosensitive silver halide emulsion having >=50 mol% silver chloride content and a hydrazine compound, a compound of the formula H-COOM is contained.
