PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably provide a magnetic recording medium having excellent electromagnetic transducing characteristics and excellent repetitive durability in the magnetic recording medium having <=8μm entire thickness. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium having <=8μm entire thickness and formed by providing a lower layer non-magnetic layer including an inorganic powder and a bonding agent on a substrate, an upper layer magnetic layer formed by dispersing a ferromagnetic powder in a bonding agent on the lower layer non-magnetic layer and a back layer on the other surface of the substrate is characterized in that the magnetic layer has 2,000-35,000 e (159.1-278.5 kA/m) coercive force and the substrate has the inorganic powder so that its existence is 0.01-500 inorganic powder particles/100μm2 cross sectional area of the substrate and the inorganic powder has 10-500 nm mean particle size.
