PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ceramic honeycomb filter which prevents the breakage of a collar part due to thermal stress and has excellent reliability even under high temperatures and a producing method thereof. SOLUTION: Ceramic honeycomb 4 is formed by extruding forming, both ends of cell 5 are alternately clogged preferably by paragenetic clogging material 6 and the ceramic honeycomb filter is thus made. At the same time, the cells of the outer peripheral part of the ceramic honeycomb 4 are wholly clogged. Subsequently, the clogged cells of the outer peripheral part are cut off besides the part which becomes the collar part 10 and thereby the collar part 10 which is brought into contact with a support plate 3 is formed. As the collar part 10 is formed by the cut-down, the breakage due to thermal stress hardly occurs.
