PURPOSE: An apparatus for driving a plasma display panel and a method thereof are provided to enable an accurate erase operation by judging the amount of data per sub field and generating an erase pulse modulated according thereof. CONSTITUTION: A signal processing part(21) performs a Gamma correction and a gain control and an error diffusion as to R/G/B image data, and a sub field mapping part(22) constructs data per each sub field to realize a brightness level according to the R/G/B image data from the signal processing part and allocates a brightness level. A data processing part(23) reconstructs the image data from the sub field mapping part. And a data amount judgement part(24) judges the amount of data per each sub field according to the output of the sub field mapping part and outputs the result of the judgement and the output of the sub field mapping part to an electrode driving waveform generation part(25). |
