PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing hollow piston for compressor is provided to simplify manufacturing procedures and reduce manufacturing cost, while lengthening useful life of the hollow piston. CONSTITUTION: A method comprises a first step of forming a pair of bodies(11) which are integrated into a single unit, wherein each of bodies has a head forming portion(11b) and a bridge forming portion(11a) with a recess(11c), and forming a pair of caps(12) each of which has a circumference forming a head forming portion(12b) corresponding to each head forming portion of the body, wherein each of caps has a holding portion(12c); a second step of forming junction surfaces(10a,10b) at each front end surface of head forming portions of bodies and caps; a third step of manufacturing semi-finished piston by allowing the junction surface of each cap to contact junction surfaces of bodies and bonding caps to both sides of bodies by the heat generated during the relative rotation between junction surface of bodies and caps; a fourth step of forming an outer periphery of the piston by cutting the outer periphery of the semi-finished piston; a fifth step of forming a wear resistant layer at the surface of the semi-finished piston; a sixth step of forming outer periphery of head by grinding outer periphery of each head portion of the semi-finished piston; a seventh step of forming a shoe pocket by forming a swash plate receiving groove by cutting the surface forming recesses of the bridge forming portion of the semi-finished piston and cutting the inner wall of the swash plate receiving groove; and an eighth step of manufacturing two hollow pistons by cutting the center of the semi-finished piston into two semi-finished pistons and performing finishing process to front and rear end surfaces of each semi-finished piston.
