PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To excellently clean an intermediate transfer body without independently providing driving source for driving a cleaning member at the time of selecting a low-speed fixing mode. SOLUTION: The image forming speed is maintained at an ordinary level in a process from image formation start until a toner image transfer to a transfer material S and is decreased to a lower level throughout a fixing period. Thus, the residual toner remaining on all the outer periphery of the intermediate transfer body 10 is wiped out by a cleaning member 22 at the time of finishing fixing. During a period until then, the relative relation of revolving speed is kept constant between the transfer body 10 and the member 22, so that an excellent cleaning effect is obtained. After the transfer material S passes through a fixing device 20, the image forming speed is increased to the ordinary level for the next image formation, so that productivity of the image formation is maintained at a fixed level or above. |
