PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyphenylene ether resin composition excellent in balance between fluidity and heat resistance, slightly causing a change in quality due to molding processing temperature and further excellent in color tone and mechanical characteristics. SOLUTION: This polyphenylene ether resin composition is characterized as comprising specific ratios of (A) a polyphenylene ether resin containing a functionalized polyphenylene ether produced by reaction at a reactional temperature of not higher than the melting point of the polyphenylene ether, (B) a polyetyrene and/or a rubber-modified polystyrene and (C) a styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer containing >=7 and <11 wt.% of an acrylonitrile component.
