Only the penetrating part (12) of the die and a small area above it is produced of a high quality alloy. It is joined to the upper part (10) which is made of a less valuable material by means of friction welding (14). The surface of the lower segment is smoothened with a circumferential machining tool in order to avoid the creation of grooves normally occurring after the final polishing.
