METHOD FOR TREATING SURFACE OF ALUMINUM HYDROXIDE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating the surface of aluminum hydroxide by which the yield of a surface treating agent can be obtained and mechanical characteristics when filled as a filler in a rubber of a plastic can be improved and also provide the aluminum hydroxide and the filler. SOLUTION: This method for treating the surface of the aluminum hydroxide is characterized by adding and mixing an alkali metal hydroxide with aluminum hydroxide, then adding and mixing a silane coupling agent therewith and heating the resultant aluminum hydroxide. The aluminum hydroxide improved in mechanical characteristics when filled in the rubber or the plastic is obtained by the method for treating the surface of the aluminum hydroxide.
