PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a main rope device for an elevator capable of elongating the life by preventing the deterioration by wrapping and suspending a main rope on a pulley at a fixed side and a pulley at an ascending and descending side while bent in the same direction as the pulleys. SOLUTION: A hoist 3 and an elevator body 5 are mounted, at least one pulley is pivoted on one of an upper fixed body 2 of a hoistway 1 and the elevator body 5, and at least two pulleys are pivoted on the other one. One side of the main rope 9 is wrapped on the pulley of the elevator body 5 from the hoist 3, bent in the direction same as the bending direction of this pulley and wrapped on the other pulley, further the other end of the main rope 9 is connected to the elevator body 5 in the odd number: 1 roping constitution by pulleys, and connected to the fixed body 2 in the even number: 1 roping constitution by pulleys. Whereby the main rope 9 can be bent in the same direction as the pulleys to be wrapped on all of pulleys pivoted on the fixed body 2 and the elevator body 5, and suspended without producing the reverse winding.
