PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an empty container compactor which can increase the collection efficiency of empty containers and reduce the recycling cost. SOLUTION: A hydraulic motor 23 operating a compacting cylinder 3 is connected to a vehicle engine transmission via a rotational force connecting means and directly connected to an electric motor 28. A bottom plate 9 forming a compacting chamber 2 between a compacting plate 8 of the compacting cylinder 3 and itself is movably provided on a substantially wedge-shaped fixing and supporting base 11. The bottom plate 9 is retracted to the squeezing chamber 2 and lowered to drop compacted articles, and is advanced to push out the compacted articles by a pushing-out member 10. A series of operations are automatically controlled by a sequencer 26.
