PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanning optical device capable of not only color printing by a tandem system but monochrome printing at higher speed than that for color printing. SOLUTION: In the scanning optical device of a tandem system provided with a light source part 11 to emit a plurality of laser beams L1-L4, a plurality of photoreceptor drums 51-54 made to correspond to laser beams L1-L4 respectively, and the polygon mirror part 2 and scanning optical systems 3, 4 which make each laser beam L1-L4 scan on each photoreceptor drum 51-54, respectively, an optical path changeover part 12 capable of changing an optical path is provided so that each laser beam L1-L4 emitted from the light source part 11 is altogether guided on one photoreceptor drum 51. Because a plurality of mutually adjacent scanning lines can be formed on the photoreceptor drum 51 by this optical path changeover part 12, two or more lines can be simultaneously plotted on the photoreceptor drum 51.
