PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a tension device for attaining small size especially in case of multiple arrangement of wefts and quickly responding with an accurate action. SOLUTION: The tension device for a loom is composed of a pair of this plates 3, 4 brought into contact with each other by a spring force and receiving a weft 6 between the plates. Action of a controlling means is applied to at least one of the plates to adjust the position of one plate relative to the other plate. In the tension device, the accurate action can be achieved by using a moving part 9 of a linear motor as the controlling means.
