A method for producing load carrying sheet material has the flat sheet first rolled with parallel profiled ridges (4) separated by flats (7). The prepared sheet is passed between process rollers to press a pattern of smaller cross ridges onto the flats and onto the sides of the larger ridges and to bend the material into a supporting arch. The sheet material is guided through the rollers between side flanges. The ridge patterns are on the outer convex side of the material and are formed by plastic deformation.
