PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording liquid particularly suitable for use in ink-jet recording that in the case of recording on plain paper, can attain good printing grade of a recorded matter and a high-density recording and has good storage stability as a recording liquid, and furthermore can give a recorded matter with good fastness such as light fastness, water fastness or the like and that has excellent jetting durability as a recording liquid and can give a good printed matter having no bleeding in a borderline region between two adjacent different colors. SOLUTION: The recording liquid comprises a water-insoluble coloring material and a styrene/acrylic acid copolymer, wherein the water-insoluble coloring material has an average dispersed particle size in a range of 0.1-0.3 μm, the styrene/acrylic acid copolymer in a free acid form has an acid value of not less than 150 mg KOH/g to less than 250 mg KOH/g and the amount of the styrene/acrylic acid copolymer is not less than 5 wt.% to less than 20 wt. % based on the amount of the water-insoluble coloring material.
