PURPOSE: An automatic water gate is provided to keep the water level in the reservoir regularly by being installed on an underwater barrage of rivers, a spillway of a reservoir, or an irrigation canal for storing water for agricultural and industrial purposes and to be used for composing an underwater barrage installed for ameliorating the polluted water quality. CONSTITUTION: An automatic water gate comprises: walls(11) constructed on an underwater barrage, a spillway of a reservoir, a wall of an agricultural water way, etc. to secure agricultural water or industrial water; a water gate(1) formed in a metallic plate or an evacuated shape, filled with low specific-gravity gas such as hydrogen, placed between walls to be inclined to form an angle of 45 degrees to the direction of discharging water, wherein the hinge shaft(2) is coupled to the inside of a hinge box(7) attached to a support(4); and a piston(3) formed between the water gate and the lower end of the support keeps the water gate closed by pressure such as hydraulic pressure or air pressure from a pressure controller operated by an automatic water level sensor(10) when the water level in the reservoir is low and, if an inflow of water from the upper reaches of rivers is increasing due to a rain or a flood, the pressure of the piston supporting by the pressure of the piston from the pressure controller operated automatically by the sensed signals from the water level sensor is controlled to discharge water to the lower reaches as much as the water quantity from the upper reaches.
