PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely restrain a buckling deformation of a cylindrical battery, which causes a decrease of a value of sealing pressure resistance or an expansion of variations of the same, by having a very simple structure of just adding a slight modification to a conventional method and apparatus, not by increasing a thickness of a battery can, which causes a decrease in a battery capacity. SOLUTION: An inserting end of an opening 32 is bumped to a pushing tool 20, which is for a curl processing, just before the inserting end reaches a terminal of a narrowing hollow 11 during a throttling, which is performed by forcefully inserting the opening 32 of a cylindrical battery can 31 in the narrowing hollow 11 in a throttle mold 10. Thus the force in a cylindrical axis direction that the battery can 31 receives from the throttle mold 10 is reduced.
