<p>An improved safety syringe device includes a shield (2) from which a vacuum needle (60) extends and retracts, a vial (20) that is telescopically received within a cavity of the shield (2) and that attaches to the vacuum needle (60) at its distal end (4), and a ring (34) rotatably connected around a portion of the vial (20) near its distal end (4). The vial (20) has at least one protrusion (22, 24) extending from its exterior surface near its distal end (4), and the ring (34) has at least one tab (36) projecting from the exterior surface of the ring (34). The tab (36) and projection (22, 24) have engaging surfaces that engage with one another when the vial (20) and ring (34) are moved axially within the shield (2) toward the distal end (4) of the shield (2). The shield (2) has at least one channel (8) defined on the interior surface of the shield (2) in the shield cavity, and the channel (8) is configured to receive the tab (36) and protrusion (22, 24).</p> |
