The invention relates to a method, system or computer programme for the processing of a printing data stream, whereby a) the printing data stream is converted (normalized) from a first print data format (S/370, MO:DCA, Line Data) into a normalized second data format (normalized data, AFP), b) the printing data stream in normalized print data format is indexed (index file generation), c) the indexed print data stream is sorted by means of pre-determined sorting parameters (layout-sorting, contents sorting) and d) the sorted printing data stream is outputted.
