PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hair dye composition having extremely high hair dye power, slight color fading with days and a slight change in color tone even in preservation. SOLUTION: This hair dye composition contains a direct dye of formula (1) [A is a (substituted or ring condensation) cationic nitrogen-containing heterocyclic aromatic group; B is a (substituted) phenylene group or a (substituted) naphthylene group; R is H, cyano group, a (substituted) 1-6C alkyl group or a group capable of forming 5- or 6-membered ring with a substituent group of N on the ring of A; K is a coupling component residue such as a phenol base, an aniline base or the like; X- is an anion].
