PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for automatic retrieval and extraction of patterns similar to a predetermined pattern. SOLUTION: In this method, a rendering of each digital pattern related to one or more of color invariant characteristics is generated, the pattern and its rendering are stored in a database and organized, and, for the purpose of identifying and extracting patterns similar to an inquired pattern, the database is retrieved referencing to the renderings so as to permit the extraction of digital patterns similar to the inquired pattern. Favorable color invariant characteristics are edge properties of each digital pattern. Pattern recognition and a retrieval structure, based on the Web, permit online pattern retrieval and a selection using various pattern renderings and similarity techniques, including a system based on the edge properties mentioned above. |
