PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the fluctuation in the radial position in loading/unloading of a magnetic disk device having a ramp loading mechanism. SOLUTION: The magnetic signal for detecting the loading radial position or unloading radial position of a magnetic head is previously recorded at a magnetic disk and this magnetic signal is read by the magnetic head of the magnetic disk device. The loading radial position or unloading radial position of the magnetic disk device is detected in accordance with the read magnetic signal, by which whether the loading or unloading of the magnetic disk device is executed or not in the normal loading radial position or unloading radial position is detected.
