A starter drive comprises a pinion 14, a sleeve 19 screwable on a screw-threaded section of the driving shaft of the starter motor and a free-wheel clutch or coupling 15 connecting the pinion to the sleeve, the assembly being displaceable on the driving shaft by a lever 32 in order to effect engagement of the pinion with the engine gear 55 or gearing and being interlocked with the driving shaft by a locking member 26 or 51 which engages in an annular groove formed in the shaft, the annular groove being sufficiently wide axially for the locking member to engage therein in any position of the driving assembly. |
