APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR MEASURING PULP QUALITY

An apparatus for measuring and controlling characteristics of pulp within a pulp slurry is provided. The apparatus includes a detector (6) to detect a mechanistic characteristic of the pulp slurry, for example the heat transfer coefficient. A pumping means (3) is provided to maintain a pulp slurry flow past the detector (6). The flow rate may be measured by a flow meter (5). The flow rate and/or concentration of the slurry may be maintained at a substantially constant predetermined level.
