PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gear shift assist device a transmission capable reducing the force to ungear at the gear shift by applying the force of the extent not to slip gear in the out of gear direction, when a clutch of a transmission is shifted off in a gear set IN condition and a gear shift direction finding means is still set in OFF. SOLUTION: A controller to control an electric motor constituting a gear shift assist device for a transmission controls the revolution of the electric motor to make a gear shift mechanism to act to a second shift direction or to a first shift direction with the assist force below the detaining force of the mechanism, even if transmission is in an unengaged condition in a first gear set IN condition in a second gear condition, and the gear shift direction finding means still does not signal that relates to the move to the second shift direction or the first shift direction.
