A method, a switching element and a bridge element are disclosed for switching connections in a fixed network. Data related to a certain connection is received from a first fixed transmission medium (101) and transmitted to a second fixed transmission medium (104). There is established a certain code (803), and the data received from the first fixed transmission medium is coded (111, 805) using said code and a certain code division multiple access method so that coded data results. The coded data is transmitted (111, 211) to a shared medium (110), which connects the first fixed medium and the second fixed medium. The signal in the shared medium is decoded (114, 805) using said code and the resulting decoded data is transmitted (114) to the second fixed transmission medium. |
