The system comprises a connection mechanism for establishing a data communication path between the mobile telephone handset and a close base station. A data transfer mechanism downloads a software data packet from the base station to the handset. The packet is stored within the mobile telephone handset, and is activated to upgrade the handset's software program in order to change the functionality of the mobile telephone handset. The system provides a standardised carrier service for downloading the software data packet to the handset. |
