The hybrid drive has a first drive arrangement for a first axle with a main engine, a variable ratio main gearbox, a main drive train between them and at least one electrical machine operable as an electric motor or generator. A second drive arrangement for a second axle has at least a second electrical machine operable as a motor or generator. The first electrical machine can be connected to the main drive train for delivering or tapping power. The hybrid drive has a first drive arrangement (8) for a first axle (4;6) with a main engine (10), a main gearbox (12), a main drive train (14) between them and at least one electrical machine (18) operable as an electric motor or generator. A second drive arrangement (28) for a second axle has at least a second electrical machine (30) that can be operated as a motor or generator. The main gearbox has a variable transmission ratio and the first electrical machine can be connected to the main drive train for delivering power to or tapping power from the main drive train.
