<p>The invention relates to a system for maintaining one or more pneumatic tyres at a desired pressure, provided with means for detecting the pressure in the tyre(s), and means controllably connected to the detection means for supplying air under a relatively high pressure to the tyre(s) when the detected pressure in the tyre(s) falls below the desired pressure. The supplied air can herein have a pressure of at least 9 bar. In order to reach this pressure the air supply means can comprise a compressor which can be driven by rotation of a wheel. When the system is applied in a vehicle, the air supply means can be fed with air from a pneumatic system of the vehicle. The pressure of the air from the pneumatic system can then be increased herein to the desired value by a stepping pump.</p> |
