A character input method and device capable of easily and quickly inputting characters and/or symbols while watching a display screen. Characters and/or symbols are classified into up to n sub-groups each consisting of up to n characters (symbols), respective sub-groups are assigned to respective switches in up to n sub-group selection switches, one of the sub-group selection switches is turned on to allow characters and/symbols in a sub-group assigned to the sub-group selection switch to correspond to up to n character decision switches, and character decision switches corresponding to selected characters and/or symbols are turned on once, thereby providing a method of inputting characters and/or symbols.
