The invention relates to a device and a method by means of which personalized printed items can be produced and printed out. The invention permits a user inexperienced in carrying out research to compile information according to personal search criteria. The amount of information acquired is automatically adjusted to the size of the printed item set beforehand by the user so that the user is able to compile a personalized book containing a number of sample passages without first having to familiarize himself with a search algorithm or database structures.
