PRINTING MEDIUM VACUUM PLATEN SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum system for minimizing the influence of an air flow exerted on an ink drop flight route (track) in a printer such as an ink jet printer or the like. SOLUTION: A printing medium vacuum platen system has a platen equipped with a vacuum port array wherein filtering is performed. A filter supplies a constant restricted air flow when the platen is partially or wholly covered. The restriction of an air flow is performed by a filter mechanism so that the ink drop flight route in a printing zone 34 is not affected and the sound dapmping of a vacuum pump 303 and vacuum pressure most approaching the edge of a printing medium can be kept.
