A method of cleaning-in-place of a filter unit (1) of the type having a plurality of filter elements extending from a plate dividing the unit into a lower inlet side for gas carrying product and an upper side outlet side for filtered gas. During cleaning-in-place of the tubular filter elements (7), a cleaning liquid and pulses of pressurised gas are mixed on the outlet side of the filter elements (7) and supplied to the interior of the filter element in a sequence of several separate liquid pulses which are mixed with the pressurised gas pulses into common pulses of gas and cleaning liquid. The ejection of the individual pulse of pressurised gas is initiated at the earliest simultaneously with, or after initiation of ejection of the corresponding pulse of cleaning liquid.
