The machines stator (10) has a sensibly cylindrical annular body (12) made up of a pile of pre-formed plates (14,16). The plates are in three pile groups (20,22,24) the magnetic permeability varies from one pile group to another so as to improve current flow in the machine and to reduce iron losses. One pile (22), of low magnetic permeability, is sandwiched between piles (20,24) of higher permeability. The axial thickness of the lower permeability pile is less than that of the higher permeability pile. |
