PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document management unit for easily setting and managing security for documents. SOLUTION: In this document management unit, document data specified by a user are registered to a document storage means 106 by a document registration means 105 and a document security publicizing method selection means 107 is requested to select the publicizing method of the document. The document security publicizing method selection means 107 performs a processing for making the user select the method for publicizing the document data. Then, the processing for selecting a security set to be added to the document data from a security information storage means 104 is performed by a document security set selection means 108, and the processing for selecting a security hierarchy to be added to the document data to be registered from the security information storage means 104 is performed by a document security hierarchy selection means 109.
