The element has an optical input for the optical multiplex signal (F1), optical receivers (OR1-ORN) for receiving wavelengths contained in the signal, optical transmitters (OT1-0TN) for generating digital optical signals with associated wavelengths and connected to a common optical output, a switching matrix (SSM) between the receivers and transmitters and at least one other transmitter (OTP) for a digital optical signal (FP) synchronized to a reference clock and with a frame structure with multiplex units in a useful region of each frame. An independent claim is also included for a system of optical network element for connecting wavelengths of wavelength multiplexed signals in a wavelength division multiplex network.
