PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalytic combustion apparatus having a high combustion efficiency, utilizing advantage of catalytic combustion and having good operating characteristics and high safety properties. SOLUTION: The catalytic combustion apparatus 5 comprises a catalyst layer 20 for effecting catalytic combustion of evaporated fuel 71, an evaporating chamber 12 provided behind the layer for heating and evaporating liquid fuel 70 by radiation heat 74 and a flame sensor 40 for sensing flame behind the catalyst layer 20 and further provided with a function of temporarily stopping a fuel pump 7 for feeding the liquid fuel 70 when flame is detected. If flame combustion is temporarily caused, flame is first extinguished and then fuel supply is resumed automatically so that catalytic combustion can be resumed or continued without stopping the catalytic combustion apparatus 5.
