PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyethylene glycol/polylactide (or polyglycolide or polycaprolactone)/polyethylene glycol ternary block copolymer excellent in biocompatibility, and a method for producing the same in a high yield. SOLUTION: This biodegradable ternary block copolymer is one selected from among copolymers represented by formulas (1) PEG-COO-PL-OCO-PEG, (2) PEG-COO-PG-OCO-PEG, (3) PEG-COO-(PL/PG)-OCO-PEG, and (4) PEG-COO- PCL-OCO-PEG (wherein PEG is polyethylene glycol; PL is polylactide; PG is polyglycolide; and PCL is polycaprolactone).
