PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that when external light is dark, the display image of a conventional reflection type liquid crystal display panel is dark and when external light is bright, the display image of a conventional transmission type liquid crystal display panel is hardly recognized. SOLUTION: A pixel electrode 14 consisting of a transparent electrode is disposed so as to overlap source signal lines 25. A reflection films 26 are formed at a peripheral part of the pixel electrode 14. Color filters 17 are formed under the pixel electrode 14 and a counter electrode 15. The display panel functions as a transmission type panel by light passing through an opening part and the display panel functions as a reflection type panel by light reflected by the reflection film 26. Light passing through the opening part 22 passes through two color filters 17 and light reflected by the reflection film 26 passes through the cooler filter 17 under the counter electrode 15 twice. Thus, the same color purity and excellent color reproducibility can be obtained whether the display panel is used as the reflection type panel or the transmission type panel.
