PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving device for pressing cloth mounted on an embroidery machine reducing operating sound generated from the driving device for pressing cloth and circumference thereof resulting from speed increase of the embroidery machine and decreasing noises of the machine at a time of a high speed operation. SOLUTION: The driving device for pressing cloth is provided with a frame, a presser bar 2 in which a presser foot 5 is fixed on a lower end thereof, energizing means for energizing the presser bar to a lower pressing position, a triangular cam 15 rotatively driven through an eccentric shaft center, and a driving device brought into contact with the cam and the presser bar for changing rotary motion of the cam to reciprocating motion and shifting the presser bar upward by the reciprocating motion. Using the cam rotatively driven through the eccentric shaft center and the driving means brought into contact with the cam and the presser bar changes the rotary motion of the cam to the reciprocating motion of the presser bar, allowing generation of noises to be prevented and enabling the embroidery machine to increase velocity thereof.
