PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use softened water for both normal water supply and shower rinse supply in a washing machine with a water softening device based on an ion exchange resin. SOLUTION: During draining of washing water, an ion removal device 29 is regenerated. During shower rinse, when a washing tub 5 is rotated and a water supply electromagnetic valve 27 is opened, tap water passes through the ion removal device 29 and is softened and flows into a chamber 47. When a water level in the chamber 47 rises, a booster pump 48 is operated. Softened water is pressurized in the booster pump and is ejected to the washing sticking to the wall of the washing tub 5 from a shower head 49, removing a detergent remaining in the washing. After the end of water supply in a final rinsing process, the ion exchange means 29 is regenerated.
