PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect whether user's eye comes close to an electronic view finder through a software processing and to control the drive of the electric view finder. SOLUTION: A light emission diode 11 and a phototransistor 12 are arranged at a part of the electronic view finder (not illustrated) where the eye comes close to. Besides, a control signal from a microcomputer 14 is supplied to a switching element 16 through a buffer amplifier 15 so as to control the light emission of the light emission diode 11. Besides, a light receiving signal received by the phototransistor 12 is supplied to an input terminal for converting an analog signal to a digital signal and taking the signal in the microcomputer 14. And a difference between the wavelength of the light receiving signal when the eye 13 comes close to the electronic view finder and the wavelength when the eye 13 does not come close to the finder is distinguished through the software processing by the microcomputer 14, then, whether or not the eye comes close to the finder is detected, then, the drive of the electronic view finder is controlled.
