PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat development device which processes heat developable materials with improved dimensional stability and development unevenness. SOLUTION: The heat development device for grasping and transporting the heat developable materials with plural pairs of heating rollers 11a, 11b to 17b and 17b processes the heat developable materials by setting the temperature gradient in its heating stroke at >=5 deg.C, more preferably in a range of 5 to 10 deg.C/sec (more preferably in a range of 7 to 10 deg.C/sec) and simultaneously setting the temperature gradient in cooling at 5 to l0 deg.C/sec (more preferably a range of 7 to 10 deg.C), thereby making it possible to suppress the distortion of the heat developable materials after the processing as far as possible.
