PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk device including an improved magnetic head, capable of preventing damages to both sliding parts of the head and a magnetic disk, and reducing a change in a friction coefficient during sliding. SOLUTION: This magnetic disk device is provided with a floating-type magnetic head for floating a slider, having a magnetic recording/reproducing element on a magnetic disk which rotates at a high speed. In this case, the magnetic recording/reproducing element is disposed close to the sliding surface of the slider while forming a non-sliding surface, and the sliding surface of the slider is provided with a magnetic head which is covered with an amorphous carbon thin film, containing hydrogen and having Vickers hardness of, 1,500 Hv or higher, and a magnetic disk covered with a carbon thin film in quality similar to that of one deposited on the slider sliding surface of the magnetic head on the recording medium layer thereof as a protective layer.
