Amide compounds represented by the following general formula (I), isomers thereof or pharmaceutically acceptable salts of the same; wherein R<1> represents hydrogen etc.; R<2> represents hydrogen, etc.; X represents SO2, etc.; Y represents a group of the formula (III), etc.; and a is 2. These compounds exhibit a remarkable and selective Rho kinase inhibitory effect without any troublesome toxicity and are excellent in oral absorbability, pharmacokinetics (drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, etc.) and physical properties (stability, etc.) as the compounds per se. Owing to these characteristics, these compounds are useful as remedies for various diseases in which Rho kinase participates.
