One-motion latch release mechanism

The latch release mechanism 20 for a vehicle door lock system comprises: a floating link 23 movable (e.g. by a locking knob, key lock or remote control) between a unlocked condition [figure 7] in which it can engage and release a latch mechanism 40 and a locked condition [figure 8] in which it cannot release the latch mechanism; a slave inside opening lever 21 operated by an inside door handle and engageable with the floating link 23; and a cancelling lever 22 which is connected to the floating link 23 and arranged between the floating link and the opening lever 21 such that when the floating link 23 is in the locked condition the cancelling lever 22 can be engaged by the opening lever 21. The release mechanism allows a one-motion door unlocking and opening operation to be carried out by the inside handle. An electric motor 25 may be used for remote operation of the lock system. Eight modes of operation for the door lock system are disclosed.
