METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR REMOVING BROMINE COMPONENT IN DECOMPOSITION OIL OF WASTE PLASTICS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of recovering a decomposition oil with an extremely low bromine content, and an apparatus suited for carrying out this method. SOLUTION: In the method comprising decomposing waste plastics 2 containing a bromine component by heating in a heat decomposition vessel 1 and condensing a gaseous heat decomposition product to be generated by the decomposition by heating to recover heat decomposition oils 13 and 14, the heat decomposition product while being in the state of a gas phase or a gas-liquid mixed phase is brought into contact with an iron oxide based catalyst at 200-450 deg.C and the bromine component present in the heat decomposition product is allowed to react with or adsorb on the catalyst to be separated and removed. The heat decomposition vessel is connected to a condensing means for liquefying the heat decomposition product to form a decomposition oil by slanting piping 6, and a fixed bed 10 of the iron oxide based catalyst is provided in the middle of the slanting piping at the position where the heat decomposition product becomes in the state of a gas phase or a gas-liquid mixed phase and, at the same time, its liquid component can be recovered as the decomposition oil.
