PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a projection-type display apparatus small in size and light in weight, to realize bright color displays, without making power consumption higher and to prevent sound from being produced at projection. SOLUTION: This projection-type display apparatus is equipped with a light source 1, a light modulating device 4 modulating light from the light source 1, and a projection lens 5 which projects the light modulated by the device 4. Then, the light source 1 is constituted of a light-emitting element array, constituted by arranging plural light emitting elements 1a in an array state, and light-diffusing means 2a and 2b causing the entire light modulating area of the device 4 to be irradiated with the right emitted from the individual light- emitting elements 1a.
